Tewksbury's Most-Read Story Of 2020: Army Sent To State Hospital

Monkey sightings, local heroes and arrests were major stories in Tewksbury in 2020. But none beat the virus.

TEWKSBURY, MA — On April 20, 2020, Massachusetts had around 40,000 confirmed coronavirus cases. Tewksbury had over 160 confirmed cases of the virus.

That included an outbreak at the State Hospital, which had more than 100 cases between staff and patients.

In response, the United States Army deployed a medical task force to the hospital. An Army Reserve Urban Augmentation Medical Task Force of 85 medical soldiers was sent.
