Trial Date Set in Refund Scammers

Marshalls refund scammers set for trial.

LOWELL - A trio of alleged scammers are accused of bilking the Marshalls in Chelmsford out of hundreds of dollars in merchandise credit gift cards.

Tewksbury police allege that that in a series of incidents between January and March of 2016, Catherine J. Oppen, 27, of Waban, would enter the Marshalls at 10 Main St. empty-handed, grab expensive household items, such as comforters, then go to return desk where she would meet Justin T. Murphy, 29, of Lowell, or Ryan Wilbur, using there IDs to get a merchandise credit for items they never purchased.

Police estimate the total amount of bogus returns was $565.

All three defendants are facing charges of larceny by single scheme and conspiracy. A trial date is scheduled for April 20.
