'It's Not Just Wakefield, It's Everywhere': COVID Cases On Rise

WAKEFIELD, MA — It's tempting to think the coronavirus is behind us with cases on the decline, vaccinations on the upswing and hints of warmer weather, but Wakefield's health director is concerned by a recent uptick in COVID-19 cases.

Health Director Ruth Clay didn't specify the coronavirus metrics in Wednesday night's Board of Health meeting but said it's part of an overall trend in Massachusetts.

"It's not just Wakefield, it's everywhere," she said.

Clay noted at least one recent cluster was connected to a business, but it appears the biggest source of spread is adult gatherings.

"The rest of them are adults who are socializing and giving it to each other and giving it to their kids," she said.

Clay said in Tuesday night's Board of Health meeting in Melrose she hopes people can stick it out a little longer.

"I'm just hoping people can show a little bit more patience to get the numbers to really come down down," she said.
