New Officers Announced at the Wakefield Sons & Daughters of Italy
Baking demonstration and scholarship details
Elections were held during the March meeting of Wakefield Sons and Daughters of Italy. The Lodge is pleased to announce the following officers: President: Paula Sasso, Vice President: Laurie Rizzo, Orator: Debbie Tremblay, Immediate Past President: Adriana Guida, Recording Secretary: Carolyn Faria, Financial Secretary: James Marino, Treasurer: Tracy Vincent, Trustees: Rosemary Finn, Joanne Szczsuil, and Toni Encarnacao, Mistress of Ceremonies: Pat Ectman and Guard: Diana Ayers. All of the elected officers were congratulated and received thanks for their commitment to the Lodge.
The March meeting included a live demonstration of how to bake piegoni by Ollie and Laurie Rizzo. This cheese pastry delicacy is an original creation by the chefs. A thin dough is filled with Romano and Parmigiana cheeses beaten with egg. When it came out of the oven, the rest of the Lodge was drooling. Sadly, since the meeting was held virtually, no one was there to sample the finished pastry! The recipe was shared with members, and can be found on the Lodge Facebook page.
Plans were made for the first-ever Easter Cookie Swap within the Lodge. There was a discussion about who would make pizzelle, sesame and anisette cookies, as well as many different types of biscotti. Several other, mostly traditional Italian, cookies were also promised.

Since members do more than cook, bake and eat, here is a reminder that the annual Grand Lodge of Massachusetts scholarship application is available. The Wakefield Lodge will be contributing one scholarship in addition to the 20+ offered by the state and other donors. Graduating High School Seniors can find information on their Facebook page, or at this link.
