Northeastern Student from Wakefield Dies of Bacterial Meningitis
The 18-year-old freshman also attended St. John's Prep.

WAKEFIELD, MA—The Northeastern Community is mourning the loss of one of its own this week, 18-year-old Wakefield native Ryan Shaw.
The Northeaster Community had informed students that a student had died of bacterial meningitis earlier this week. The student was later identified as Shaw by multiple reports.

The email from the university stated that Shaw had already left campus before developing symptoms, and close contacts have been offered medication and immunization.Â

SHAW, Ryan S. Of Wakefield. May 9. Son of Scott W. and Joanne F. (Warchol) Shaw. Brother of Connor J. Shaw and Madison A. Shaw both of Wakefield. Grandson of Barbara Warchol of Wakefield and her late husband Richard Warchol, Donna Brown of Hilton Head, SC, Robert Brown, Jr. of Leominster and William Shaw and his wife Carol of Bedford, NH. Also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., WAKEFIELD, on Sunday from 1-4pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield on Monday at 11am. Interment, Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ryan's name to the Haven Project, 57 Munroe St., Lynn, MA 01901 or to the Mustard Seed Communities, 29 Janes Ave., Medfield, MA 02052.
