Summer BBQ for Wakefield Sons and Daughters of Italy

June Meeting

Although it was hot and storms were predicted, the Lodge went ahead with a wonderful barbecue for the June meeting. Laurie Rizzo of Laurie’s 909 cooked up hotdogs, hamburgers and sausages. Members rounded out the meal by providing wonderful salads and desserts.

There was discussion about which charities the lodge would support in 2021. It was decided to make a donation to the Boys & Girls Club of Wakefield and Stoneham, Alzheimer’s Research, Cooley’s Anemia Foundation, and The Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism. As always, a high school senior will be given a scholarship as well. This year’s recipient will be announced soon!

In other business, a sub-committee was set up to plan for the Lodge's annual charity auction tentatively scheduled for October 28th. (Note: it was an annual auction other than in 2020 – enough said.) Members were invited to send a team to the Watertown Lodge for a bocce tournament in September. There was also discussion of playing bocce locally - just for fun. So, on July 27 at 6:00 p.m., anyone interested in playing bocce-for-fun should meet at the Stoneham Senior Center bocce court, 136 Elm St.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 13, again in Stoneham (weather permitting). Everyone enjoyed the pre-meeting meal so much, another barbeque is being planned. Please contact President Paula for information about attending or about joining the Lodge at wakefieldosia@gmail.com.
