After a coordinated construction effort to install new electric transmission conduit as well as gas and water infrastructure within the same construction footprint was completed on Friday, October 23, National Grid, Wakefield Municipal Gas and Light (WMGLD) and the Wakefield Department of Public Works (DPW) looked forward to reopening Broadway and restoring its regular traffic pattern.
Although all major construction (National Grid, WMGLD, and DPW) at the Broadway crossing is complete--including roadway paving--the street must remain closed until reopening approvals have been granted by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). Please note that the Town of Wakefield has been in frequent communication with the FRA and is working hard to garner the relevant approvals needed to reopen the street. Over the coming days, we plan to share more information with regard to a timeline for reopening Broadway.

Again, our intent was to reopen the street to a regular traffic pattern at the end of the workday last Friday. We regret that the reopening did not occur as planned.
On behalf of the Woburn to Wakefield Line Project, WMGLD, and Wakefield DPW, we sincerely thank you for your continued patience. We look forward to following up with more information as soon as we have it.
Thank you,
Woburn to Wakefield Line Project, Wakefield DPW and Wakefield Municipal Gas & Light Department
*Please note, due to the complexities of outdoor construction, schedules are subject to change.
