Wakefield Remains Moderate Risk With 79 New Cases

WAKEFIELD, MA — Wakefield added 79 coronavirus cases over the last two weeks, bringing it to over 500 confirmed cases, according to town-by-town data released by the state. But the town remained in the moderate-risk category, averaging 20.8 daily cases per 100,000 residents, with a test rate of 3.18 percent.

That's up from 11.9 average daily cases and a test rate of 1.75 percent last week. There have been 558 cases in Wakefield since March.

Sixty-two Massachusetts communities were designated high-risk by the state on Thursday, more than doubling the list of red towns. More than three-quarters of the state's cities and towns reported rising positive test rates.

There have been 10,204 confirmed deaths and 192,050 confirmed cases statewide since the pandemic reached the Bay State in March. The statewide positive test rate rose to 3.2 percent, the highest level since early June.
