Wakefield Sons & Daughters of Italy Take a Virtual Trip
The Greatness of Tuscany was "explored"

Once again, the Wakefield Lodge met over Zoom for the April meeting. Alice Dailey was nominated and voted in as Trustee. There was discussion about which delegate from the Lodge would attend
the Annual State Convention on June 12, 2021.
Next up was a recorded presentation titled The Greatness of Tuscany. This webinar was presented by Dr. Rocky Ruggiero, a 20-year resident of Tuscany and Professor of Art and Architectural History. Dr. Ruggiero gave an entertaining history and shared many fun facts about this area of
Italy.
For example, did you know that Medici isn’t just a TV series, but was an actual banking family from Florence in the 15th century? And that Chianti isn’t just a type of wine, but also a mountainous region of Tuscany where this wine is produced? How about that the Leaning Tower of Pisa is actually the bell tower for the Pisa Cathedral? A poll was taken among members at the meeting, and about half had travelled to Tuscany. Whether or not they had seen these sights in person, everyone very much enjoyed the presentation.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 11 outside of Laurie’s 909 on New Salem St. (weather permitting). On the agenda for May is installment of officers and the induction of new members. There is an excellent chance there will be refreshments at this meeting.
