Wakefield Unemployment Up from Last Year, Last Month
Wakefield unemployment went up slightly from last year.

The Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development recently released their June unemployment numbers for counties and towns throughout the state, including Wakefield.Â
Wakefield saw an increase in unemployment from May to June of this year, as well as from June 2012 to June of this year.Â
Unemployment rose in Wakefield from 5.4 percent in June of 2012 to 5.8 percent this past June. Unemployment had gone down to 5.3 percent in May of this year.
As of June, there were 821 Wakefield residents without jobs, out of the 14,205 total labor force in Wakefield. The labor force in Wakefield, which is the total number of employable individuals, went up slightly from last year, going from 14,073 to 14,205.
Statewide, unemployment was up in June as well as year-to-date. June unemployment throughout the state rose by 0.7 of a percent to 7.4 percent this past June. Statewide unemployment over the year jumped up by 0.5 percent to 6.9 percent.Â
