Famous People to Live in Walpole

A look at some of the important figures to live and come out of Walpole.

You might not know it, but Walpole has brought together some very interesting people in its 300-plus-year history.

Walpole native Joseph Welch played a part in history for Walpole, serving as a special counsel to the U.S. Army during the Army-McCarthy hearings, and helped to end a national travesty of blacklisting suspected communists. He also played a judge in the film Anatomy of a Murder, which was nominated for seven Oscars and worked alongside George C. Scott and James Stewart.

Walpole has also contributed to the local sports world in a variety of way.

Former New England Patriots running back Kevin Faulk lived in Walpole. Former Patriot Todd Collins was born in Walpole and also had a long career in the NFL after being drafted by the Buffalo Bills. He also played baseball, basketball and football for the Rebels in high school. He was named New England Player of the Year by the Boston Globe.

Former Major League infielder and manager Joe Morgan was also born in Walpole. He spent three years as a manager for the Red Sox and eight years with the Pawtucket Red Sox.

Seven-time U.S. figure skating national champion Roger Turner lived in Walpole until his death in 1993, and won two silver medals in the 1930-31 Olympics.

Former Bruins defenseman and assistant general manager Mike Milbury also has lived in Walpole.
