JWCW in the Community

Wondering what the Junior Woman's Club of Walpole has been up to lately?

Devote yourself to the community around you, and devote yourself to something that gives you
purpose and meaning. This is a motto is shared by members of The Junior Woman’s Club of
Walpole (JWCW).
Wondering what the JWCW has been up to this year? The JWCW has been involved in many
community events this year. Through community partnerships with various local groups,
charities and businesses, the club has been able to raise funds to donate 100% back to the town
of Walpole to many areas of need. At each JWCW meeting, club members discuss and vote on
where funds raised should be allocated.
The club kicked off the 2017/2018 year by inviting some wonderful guest speakers to the fall
meetings for club members. This years guest speakers included Walpole Police Chief John
Carmichael and Sergeant Jackie Hazeldine who briefed the Club on current local issues
including information on sexual predators and drugs in our community , and also Robin Putnam
from the Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation who shared great tips on how to
avoid holiday fraud.
This year the JWCW chaired and participated in various local community happenings. These
include hosting a water table for runners at the annual Walpole Labor Day Road Race, baking
goods and providing coffee to Walpole Veterans at the Veterans Day celebration, holding an
ice-cream social for our Walpole Seniors at the Walpole Council on Aging, cooking and serving
hot meals to those in need at Breaking Bread, co-hosting a Blood Drive, Toy Drive, Food Drive
Pancake Breakfast with various other Walpole community service organizations to benefit Dana
Farber Cancer Institute, and baking meals and bringing treats monthly to our Walpole Police
Department and Walpole Fire Department to show the Club’s appreciation for what they do in
our community.
In addition, JWCW club members give to the community by purchasing items for various
community needs. Donations this year include donating to a school supply drive initiated by the
Walpole Police Department to aid Walpole elementary school children in need of assistance,
donating supplies and gift cards to the New Hope Women’s emergency shelter for battered
women and their children, and compiling and donating birthday party kits to Birthday Wishes, an
organization that provides birthday parties to homeless children in shelters. The JWCW also runs
an annual Holiday Meal program for Walpole families in need by partnering with Stop & Shop
to fund a hot holiday meal to each family in both November and December. The Club donates
over 80 meals annually to this cause.
On the social scene, the JWCW partnered with various businesses to have a night out for Club
members while also raising funds. Events included a ladies shopping night at Secret Haven in
Walpole and also a ladies spinning night at Bike and Barre in Walpole. Both businesses
graciously made donations to the JWCW for holding events with them, and in turn the Club will
donate the funds back to Walpole area’s in need.
The JWCW also held 3 fundraisers so far this year, including the Red, White & Brew event in
which the Club partnered with Walpole Wine & Spirits to raise funds for the Walpole Veterans
Committee. A check for $5000 was donated to the Walpole Veterans Committee, and an
additional $5k was raised for the Club’s general fund, as a result. In addition, the JWCW held a
Trivia Night in January, and a Medium Night featuring the Massachusetts Medium June Edward
in February. All three events helped to raise funds for the JWCW general fund.
The JWCW is celebrating their 30th anniversary this year at their annual Fashion Show to be
held on Thursday, April 5th at Raffael’s Banquet Facility in Walpole. JWCW Club members will
be walking the catwalk modeling over 30 styles by boutique vendor Capsule Lifestyle Inc.
(Medfield). This is the Club’s largest fundraiser annually. To purchase tickets call 508-212-2582
or email jwcwfashionshow2018@gmail.com. It’s always a fun ladies night out! All are welcome
including members and the public.
Looking forward, The JWCW has many plans for this coming spring including 2 community
days where JWCW club members will help paint the inside of the Walpole Girl Scout House, the
creation a JWCW float to ride in the Walpole Day Parade, holding another Ice Cream Social for
Walpole’s Seniors, and supporting the Iron Chef competition held at Walpole High, to name just
a few.
Chartered in 1988, the JWCW is a service organization of more than 50 volunteer women
dedicated to the betterment of the Town of Walpole and its surrounding area. They strive to
provide a variety of charitable, educational, social and cultural projects and programs that
enhance the lives of our community and beyond. In addition, it provides members an opportunity
to work and socialize with women who have similar goals and interests. They meet once a month
from September through May.
Members come from all parts of the community and they are always looking for new members
who are interested in becoming part of a great team of hardworking and dedicated women, while
having fun. There are many opportunities to participate, and the extent of your involvement is up
to you. The JWCW supports over 30 local and national charities and organizations, including:
