New Lovell's Sport Shop Prepping for Spring Season
The sporting goods store at 667 Main Street in Walpole opened last month.
After selling their sporting goods store Town Sports on Main Street in Walpole in 2000, the Lovell family is hoping to hit it out of the park once again in the same location.
Owner Richie Lovell opened Lovell's Sport Shop at 667 Main Street in February and is looking to add to Walpole's rich sports culture by supplying athletes with the gear they need.
“Big sports town, huge sports town,” Lovell said. “Every sport in this town is big. I grew up in Norwood, and Walpole, they were our big rivalry sports town.”

Despite growing up a Mustang, Richie said he is hoping to fill a need in Walpole as there are limited options in town when it comes to a full-service sporting goods store.
“There was nothing here. Sporting good-wise a lot of the little guys got forced out of the business,” he said.

Lovell's family has been in the sporting goods business since 1971. They also run the pro shop at the Boch Ice Rink in Dedham. Town Sports was located in the Market Place Shopping Center where the current UPS Store is.
Currently stocked with hockey gear and some baseball equipment, Lovell is waiting on a shipment of spring sports supplies to come in before the new season starts.
“Things are different here. It’s not just hockey. It’s going to be everything, as soon as everything shows up. Which is going to take a little while,” he said.
Lovell is expecting a full shipment of baseball, lacrosse, soccer and golf supplies in the next two weeks.
In the meantime, you can look through Lovell's many unique apparel items including Rebels gear like hats and sweatshirts.
Other services include ice skate sharpening and repair and custom order silk screening and embroidery for uniforms, tee shirts, sweatshirts, jackets and hats.
Eventually he plans to add services like fitting for baseball gloves, re-lacing lacrosse sticks and re-gripping golf clubs.
Lovell said since opening the store he has seen good business and is hoping it will last.
"When I opened the door all the Walpole kids came back,” he said. “Hopefully we’ll be here for a long time.”
