When Mike Alisandratos started Supreme Pizza in Walpole more than 30 years ago, he said he didn’t think he’d be doing it for the rest of his life.
Alisandratos, 19 at the time, started the business with his mom dad after they moved from their location in Norwood.
“We saw this place for sale and my father and I inquired,” he said. “I was 19 years old and my father never spoke the language, and I’ve been here since helping him.”

Alisandratos said he originally came from Greece to the U.S. with his father in 1975 when he was 14. The two worked at a family member’s restaurant for a few years.
“It was me working as a 14 year-old kid helping out and that’s how I learned the business,” he said. “When we first came over. my uncle had a pizza place in Weymouth. In 1980, it was just me and my dad, we bought this place and my dad and I worked for about six months and we brought my mother and my sister over from Greece.”

Alisandratos said he didn’t always want to work in the food industry, but he just kept coming back.
“I actually went to mechanic school in the 80s,” he said. “I worked for six months and then I came back to the pizza business. I decided it was not for me, it was more like a hobby. I tried doing other stuff, but I ended up back in the restaurant business.”
Alisandratos said he feels being a local owner is very important for the quality of the food you get. He said standardization has its benefits, but it’s when someone wants something done their way is when that can get you into trouble.
“We’re a family business and we’re not like McDonald’s or Burger King,” he said. “You can actually have it your way here. We put care into the food we put out because we’re a family business.”
Alisandratos his sister and mother still help out, as the photo to the left attests. He said his father passed away 16 months ago, which was tough on the whole family.
“Over the past five years, my father got really sick,” he said. “He was fighting lung cancer for five years and I was a caregiver.”
Alisandratos said his customers actually help to inspire a lot of the food he makes.
“We actually only put pizzas on the menu because people kept asking,” he said. “Like our pastrami pizza for instance.”
Alisandratos said some requests can get pretty out there sometimes.
“The weirdest thing anyone’s ever asked for was an egg salad and tuna pizza,” he said.
Alisandratos said they sponsor local baseball and volleyball teams and donate to the local churches when they ask.
Supreme Pizza is located on 885 Main St. and is open Monday - Saturday, 11 a.m. - 11 p.m.; Sunday, noon - 10 p.m.
