Walpole Man Accused of Giving 6-Year-Old Son Bloody Nose, Bruises on Forehead and Back
Stephen J. Walsh of Washington Street was arrested and charged with domestic assault and battery on a child.

A Walpole man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting his 6-year-old son, giving him a bloody nose and bruises on his forehead and back.
Stephen J. Walsh, 47, of 1480 Washington St. has been charged with domestic assault and battery on a child after his wife witnessed him striking the young boy.
“He was bringing his two kids to a hockey game and he went out into the car and the little kid started struggling with him trying to get him in the car seat," deputy police chief John Carmichael said.

“According to the witness there was some yelling and screaming inside of the car and then the witness was saying she could see Stephen striking his own child,” Carmichael said. “She goes out there and she sees fresh, swollen bruise marks on the side of his forehead and he had a bloody nose and a mark on his nose and back.”
The mother of the boy, and their 3-year-old son who was also in the car, called police to reported the injuries.

She told police she had never seen the children with injuries of that type before.
"So that’s why we have reason to believe those injuries were caused right at that point,” said Carmichael.
Walsh was arrested and charged with domestic assault and battery on a child. The mother took custody of both children.
The Department of Children and Families was notified and will be investigating the incident.
Carmichael said Walsh did not have any prior arrests with the Walpole Police Department. He also said drugs or alcohol did not appear to be a factor.
The incident occurred Sunday, March 17 at around 2 p.m.
