
WALPOLE, MA – A Walpole native just got one step closer to The Show. Johnny Adams, a shortstop from Boston College, was selected by the Seattle Mariners as the 663rd overall pick in the 22nd round of the MLB draft. The recent graduate was a career .243 hitter with 100 runs, 169 hits, 79 RBIs and 28 stolen bases, according to BC Athletics.
In the field, Adams boasted a career .961 fielding percentage, committing just 34 errors in 835 chances. He was the first two-time recipient of the No. 8 jersey, worn in honor of Peter "Sonny" Nictakis, for "representing the best qualities of BC Baseball."
He was a senior captain this past season and earned BC's Unsung Hero Award for men's sports. Adams is ranked on five career record lists and was named to the 2016 Oxford All-Regional Team, earning Most Outstanding Player.
