Walpole Police Start Speed Enforcement Campaign
"Across the state, we've seen a disturbing trend of speeding and reckless driving," Walpole police said.
WALPOLE, MA — Walpole police are cracking down on speedsters with a new 2020 summer speed enforcement campaign. Police said since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, there's been a spike in speeding and reckless driving.
"While traffic volume is down, the crash fatality rate doubled in April 2020," police said.
The Summer Speed Mobilization initiative is set to begin June 5th, and will run through June 30th. The Walpole Police Department will be joining the Massachusetts State Police and other local police departments in an effort to help reduce roadway crashes, injuries and fatalities. The Summer Speed Enforcement initiative is funded by a federal grant administered through the Executive Office of Grants and Research. WPD will be mobilizing extra patrols to enforce speed restrictions and other traffic violations.
