Waltham $1.6 Million Mansion Hits Market Amid Pandemic

WALTHAM, MA —While the pandemic has impacted nearly every facet of daily life in and around the city, people are still selling homes. We wondered what the most expensive home on the market looked like right now.

A quick search on realtor.com returned this new construction home that was finished and came on the market this month at $1.6 million.

What happened?

“While most of the economy remains under pressure, housing continues to be an exception. Solid demand as well as low mortgage rates are driving growth in home sales,” Rubeela Farooqi, chief U.S. economist at High Frequency Economics, wrote in a research note, Patch partner Realtor.com reported.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau compared with last year, housing starts were up 11 percent.

Home construction activity reportedly has shot up in the Northeast, in particular with a 67 percent jump in overall housing starts and a 21 percent increase in single-family starts.
