Colarusso to Clark "Stop Playing Politics with Stimulus Funds"

The relief bill is needed to offset economic damages incurred by the Coronavirus

Caroline Colarusso Republican Candidate for Congress MA-5 accused Congresswoman Katherine Clark of playing politics with much needed Coronavirus relief funds for Massachusetts residents. Colarusso expressed her discontent with Clark during a lively debate where Colarusso made the case that the political posturing taking place by House Speaker Pelosi and Katherine Clark must come to an end. Colarusso stated Clark who is running to be the Assistant Speaker of the House is voting lock step and barrel with Pelosi in her quest to be the Assistant Speaker". Clark is also the Vice Chair of the Democratic caucus. Colarusso called out Clark a leader in her party with the influence and the ability to have party members rally to agree to a Coronavirus relief bill that would aid hurting Massachusetts families and businesses. β€œClark put the people of Massachusetts on the back burner and placed her political ambition first, ”Colarusso stated. Colarusso continued in sharp contrast to Clark said she would have remained in Washington instead of flying home to campaign forgoing party loyalty while Americans wait for stimulus relief.

β€œI am not alone in realizing the immediate need for much needed relief for Massachusetts families. Just two short weeks ago in an interview with Jon Keller House Speaker Robert DeLeo expressed serious concern with the lack of Coronavirus relief for Massachusetts coming from Washington, DC., and said that he would have liked to see a relief package by September 1.
Colarusso, a local elected official echoed those same concerns saying, β€œCoronavirus relief for Massachusetts must be a priority and not a political football.” Colarusso continued saying, β€œSpeaker Pelosi is blindly supported by Clark, both refusing to make reasonable compromises with the Secretary Mnuchin and Senate Republicans. Instead Clark is demanding an exorbitant pork filled bill containing indefensible provisions such as a bailout for the cannabis industry and poorly run cities and states, elimination of voter identification in states across the country, and direct cash benefits to illegal aliens. β€œThe intent of this relief bill is to offset economic damages incurred by the Coronavirus, not bailout poorly managed states” said Colarusso. β€œClark should have remained in DC and worked towards a stand-alone bill or a compromise bill, instead she got on a plane and went home” Colarusso said during the debate.

Colarusso acknowledges that this economy needs rebooting now and its irresponsible for Clark to blindly follow Pelosi because it is hurting Massachusetts. The White house has increased their stimulus offer from $1.6 trillion to 1.9 trillion just today with a provision for business loans to restaurants, hotels and small businesses. β€œIt’s irresponsible for Clark to blindly follow Speaker Pelosi’s political gamesmanship which is hurting middle and lower-class households as well as failing small businesses and restaurants. Colarusso said β€œWe need assistance from Washington, DC,” said Colarusso sharing Speaker DeLeo’s concern. β€œWe must see Coronavirus relief or we can expect more devastating effects.” Just today the stock market felt the effects of stalled negotiations. Colarusso in a live debate with Clark committed to breaking party ties and doing what is best for the people of the district. Colarusso asked Clark to do the same in a press release two weeks ago.
