'It is in fact true, that hope is stronger than fear.'

One woman's story of how Watertown street art became to her 'words and pictures of hope and inspiring strength.'

Β

My name is Hannah Serbun. I live on Oliver Road, right on the edge of Dexter Ave, a place where a lot a terrible things happened recently, as I'm sure you know.
I moved to my apartment, after moving around the town of Watertown for over 2 years, never finding a steady place to call home. I finally found a home in this apartment, and in this community.Β
After the events of Friday night/day, I found it hard to even get out of bed. As someone who already was struggling with severe trauma, this wasn't something that left me untouched.
Unfortunately, I needed to get food, so I managed to get out of my apartment, and when I turned the corner of Dexter Ave. onto Mount Auburn St. and saw block after block of the street, covered by sidewalk chalk, words and pictures of hope and inspiring strength, I suddenly felt an overwhelming feeling of relief, and was proven that it is in fact true, that hope is stronger than fear.Β
I am so grateful to live in this community, to know that I am surrounded by people who when faced with such horrible Β tragedy, will only become stronger and move forward, together, with hope and strength, and love for our town.
Sincerely,
Hannah Serbun
