Leo O'Brien, 84, of Watertown, MBTA Worker, Belmont Crossing Guard

Leo T. O'Brien, formerly of Watertown, died on Dec. 31 at the age of 84.

He honorably served his country in the Army National Guard. He worked for the MBTA in the Carmen's Union Local 589 in Boston for over 23 years retiring in 1978. He had also worked for the Belmont Police Department as a special crossing guard for 7 years, according to an obituary on the Joyce Funeral Home website. 

In his later years he had a fascination with electronics and even became familiar with iPhones, Nooks and the Windows Tablet. He served as an assistant Boy Scout leader and enjoyed model shipbuilding and model trains.

His wife Constance O'Brien, grandson, Matthew T. O'Brien and sister, Marguerite O'Brien, predeceased him.

He leaves his children, Thomas L. O'Brien and his wife, Debora of Springfield and Patricia A. O'Brien of Shrewsbury; grandchildren Molly, Michelle and Thomas O'Brien; siblings John O'Brien of Randolph, Catherine R. Welch of Newburyport, Eleanor Anzivino of Mansfield and Marion Burns of Roslindale; also by nieces and nephews.

Calling hour will be in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20) in Waltham on Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 10 a.m. before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main St. in Waltham, where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery in West Roxbury.
