Boston Marathon Movie Producers Asking to Re-Create Watertown Shootout

The filmmakers behind the movie 'Patriots Day' are gauging residents' reactions to the proposal.

Filmmakers for β€˜Patriots Day,’ an upcoming movie dramatizing the events of the Boston Marathon bombing and ensuing manhunt, want to recreate the shootout between the Tsarnaev brothers and law enforcement in Watertown, local website watertownmanews.com reported.

The site said representatives of CBS Films sent around fliers and met with residents to discuss the proposal. They added that they intend to simulate gunshots overnight during the shoot, to which some locals might be sensitive.

Residents were also asked to fill out a survey regarding whether or not they approved of filming.

β€˜Patriots Day’ stars Boston native Mark Wahlberg and is directed by Peter Berg. According to the Boston Globe, Wahlberg met with Boston police officer Danny Keeler, who he will portray in the film, earlier this year. Keeler is a detective who was in command at the finish line of the marathon and played a pivotal role in the search for Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

If approved, preparation for the scene will begin in late April.
