Watertown Library Welcomes New Trustee

WATERTOWN, MA — The Watertown Free Public Library Trustees and Town Council President Mark Sideris selected Emily Izzo to fill the open seat on the Library Board of Trustees. She will serve until the next election in November, 2021.

Izzo works as a municipal finance law attorney with the Massachusetts Department of Revenue. She is looking forward to the opportunity to expand the impact and shape the future of Watertown’s well-loved public library.

“I grew up in Watertown and was a member of the Watertown Library, and participated in the summer reading program,” Izzo writes. “I also often went to the Watertown Library on the weekends while I was in law school to utilize the quiet study space. I am a strong supporter of libraries and understand the need to make the library accessible to all members of the community.”

The Watertown Free Public Library Trustees are engaged in processing community feedback and formulating a strategic plan for the future. With her legal and civic experience working in state government, Izzo is a welcome addition to team.

Prior to working for the Massachusetts DOR, Izzo worked for the State Representative John Lawn as chief of staff for the Joint Committee on Election Laws and Veterans and Federal Affairs. She holds a Juris Doctorate from New England Law and a Bachelor of Arts from Assumption College.

Izzo was chosen from a pool of 14 applicants to fill a vacancy left by Mara Dolan. Dolan had been previously elected in November 2019, but moved out of Watertown and thus became eligible to serve.
