Watertown Police To Collect Unwanted Prescription Drugs

Unused prescriptions will be collected on Saturday.

WATERTOWN, MA β€” Watertown police are asking for residents unused drugs.

Anyone interested in dropping something off can leave it at the Watertown Police Department. Wear a mask and enter through the side entrance near the parking lot, no appointment is necessary.

This program addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse, police said. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicinesβ€”flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trashβ€”both pose potential safety and health hazards.
