Watertown Roads Closing for Sunday's Walk for Hunger
The annual event will kick off Sunday, May 5, at the Boston Common and snake through Watertown.

More than 40,000 people will make their way through Watertown and surrounding communities this Sunday for the annual Project Bread Walk for Hunger.
Sunday's walk is a 20-mile route that passes through Boston, Brookline, Newton, Watertown and Cambridge. The event kicks off at 9 a.m. on Boston Common.
The annual walk raises money and awareness for local hunger and supports the more than 750,000 people in Massachusetts who do not have enough food to eat.Β

Before all those walkers make their way through the local streets, be sure to read through some local road closures and detours that will affect Watertown on Sun., May 5:
- Drivers are asked to use extreme caution and expect delays on Galen Street from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.Β
- Parking restrictions on Charles River Road from Galen Street to basketball courts near Irving Street 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 5.Β
- Charles River Road from Basketball Courts near Irving Street to North Beacon Street, right lane is closed.Β
- Expect delays at the North Beacon St. Bridge from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.Β
- North Beacon Street right lane closed from Soldierβs Field Road to Greenough Blvd. from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.Β
- Extreme caution at intersection of North Beacon and Greenough with Walkers crossing the street from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Greenough Boulevard between North Beacon and Arsenal Streets will be closed to vehicular traffic from 8:15 a.m. to 6 p.m.Β
- Drivers are asked to use extreme caution on Arsenal St. at the intersection of Greenough Boulevard where Walkers will cross from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.Β
- Greenough Boulevard Westbound to Cambridge will have the right lane closed from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Overall, the 2012 walk raised $3.6 million.
