Watertown's Country Mile Restaurant To Close

The restaurant published a lengthy post on Facebook explaining the closing and inviting customers in for one last hurrah.

WATERTOWN, MA β€” After just a year in business, Watertown's Country Mile restaurant is closing. The restaurant announced on it's Facebook page that Friday and Saturday would be the last days the restaurant is open. The post didn't include details on why the restaurant was closing but the owners had temporarily closed and posted in the past about hardships in their first year.

The restaurant opened in November 2018 and is co-owned by Nancy and Matt Sargent, a couple from Vermont who opened two restaurants before, according to their staff bios on the restaurant website. The couple owned a plot at Belmont Acres Farm where Nancy tended to vegetables and food used in the restaurant. Matt is a described as a "completely self taught chef with a 'fly by the seat of my pants' approach," on the restaurant website.

Country Mile made headlines in local paper and in the Boston Globe when it opened as a "scrappy" new restaurant that offered clean food and a constantly changing menu.

Last month the restaurant hinted at the struggles it was facing, publishing a post that mentioned "rampant staffing turnover and shortages, challenging cash flow, a distinct lack of sleep, and not nearly enough time to post cool food pics on Instagram." The restaurant was closed for a week.

On Thursday, Country Mile published a lengthy post announcing its closure. The restaurant thanked customers for the enjoying food and welcomed them back for one last hurrah on Friday and Saturday before doors close.
