Dave Cavell Disavows Outside Spending in MA04 Race

Cavell pledges to reject unaccountable dark money, and calls on his fellow 4th District candidates to follow suit.

Brookline, MA– Amidst reporting on the formation of super PACs in the 4th District race, MA-04 candidate Dave Cavell called for his fellow candidates to join him and disavow any super PAC formed to support him in the Democratic Primary. Cavell has consistently advocated for other campaign finance and electoral reforms.

Dave Cavell, candidate for Massachusetts 4th Congressional District issued the following statement:

“Throughout this campaign, other candidates in this race have talked a big game about getting money out of politics. Unaccountable PACs are a central piece of what is wrong with our campaign finance system. It is time that we as Democrats walk the walk, and reject unaccountable outside spending.

That’s why I’m releasing a pledge to keep unaccountable dark money out of my race. My campaign will disavow any big spenders– friends, family, or otherwise– starting a super PAC in support of my campaign. This election must be decided by voters in the 4th District and no one else.”

Sarah Thomas, campaign manager for Cavell’s congressional campaign added the following:

“This seat isn’t for sale to the highest bidder. The 4th District deserves better. Outside money is drowning out the voices of voters in our district and across the country, keeping the wealthy and well-connected in power. As Democrats vying for a historic seat, we must lead by example and not engage in abuses of the campaign finance system like Donald Trump does now and Republicans have been doing for decades.”
