Drugged Driving, Suspicious Follower: Wellesley Police Log

The following is from the Wellesley Police Log. Arrests and charges mentioned don't imply conviction.

September 20

11:27 a.m. - Officer Keenan spoke with a Cedar Street woman from about bank fraud. The report is incomplete at this time and no further information is available.

4:02 p.m. - Officer Kane spoke with a man who stated his bike was stolen from the bike rack at the high school. He stated the bike was not locked and described it as a green Specialized bike valued at $500. At 6:27 p.m. Officer Kane received a message from the reporting party that a friend had borrowed the bike without telling him and had returned it to him.

9:08 p.m. - Officer Griffin was dispatched to the area of Worcester Street and Overbrook Drive for a report of a motor vehicle crash. Officer Griffin spoke with both parties involved and was advised by one operator that she was sitting at the red light when she was struck from behind. The other operator, 67-year-old Mark Silin of Newton, stated that he was at the red light when he lifted his foot off of the brake and collided with the other vehicle. Officer Griffin noted that Silin’s eyelids were droopy and his pupils were constricted, his speech was slurred and when asked he indicated that he takes several medications. He agreed to take some reasonable tests of balance and coordination to determine if he was able to safely operate a motor vehicle. He was unable to successfully pass these tests and was taken into custody and charged with drugged driving (second offense), negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and failure to use care while stopping. He was transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and later bailed.

1:24 p.m. - Officer Keenan was dispatched to Upwey Road for a report of a tree company doing work on her property without her permission. The report is incomplete at this time and no further information is available.

1:39 p.m. - Officer Kane spoke with a woman who works at a business on Cedar Street. She stated that a man followed her vehicle to Longfellow Pond and then back to her place of employment on Cedar Street and she thought it was suspicious. She provided Officer Kane with the vehicle registration number. He was able to make contact with the operator over the phone and learned that he was a private investigator and had misidentified the reporting party as the individual he was to be conducting surveillance on. Officer Kane followed up with the reporting party and advised her of this.

4:20 p.m. - Officer Dixon spoke with a woman who stated that her mountain bike was stolen from her yard the day before. She described the bike as a blue and white Omega Quest. There are no suspects.

7:10 p.m. - Officer Dixon was on patrol on Worcester Street when he was alerted by his cruiser mounted license plate reader that a Maryland license plate showed that the owner of the vehicle was wanted by the US Postal Inspector for fraud by Wire. Officer Dixon stopped the vehicle and spoke with the owner and operator, 47-year-old Jonathan Williams of Brookline. He was taken into custody and was transported to the Wellesley Police Department where he was held until the US Postal Inspector could take custody of him.

September 22

11:00 a.m. - Officer Kane was dispatched to Maugus Avenue to speak to a resident about firearms the family no longer wished to keep. He took possession of the firearms and transported them back to the police station where they were marked for destruction and stored until they can be appropriately disposed of.

September 23

1:15 a.m. - Sgt. Carrasquillo was conducting traffic enforcement on Worcester Street near Emerson Road when he observed a Honda SUV drive past him at a high rate of speed. He estimated the speed to be 70 mph in a 50 mph zone. He travelled behind the vehicle and observed that the vehicle had difficulty maintaining its lane of travel and was operating at approximately 80 mph. He stopped the vehicle and spoke with the operator, 42-year-old Achilles Moussissa of Framingham. While speaking with Moussissa, Sgt. Carrasquillo noticed that his speech was slurred and there was an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his person. Moussissa was unable to successfully complete some reasonable tests of balance and coordination used to determine his ability to safely operate a motor vehicle. He was taken into custody and charged with operating under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, marked lanes violation, and speeding. He was then transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and later released on personal recognizance.
