Mass Bay Student Arrested for Armed Road Rage: Police

Police said a Mass Bay Community College student pointed a gun at another driver on Route 9.

WELLESLEY, MA - A Mass Bay Community College student was arrested after allegedly pointing a gun at another driver in a fit of road rage, police said.

Ian Beagan, 25, allegedly pulled up next to a car that had slowed down for construction on Route 9 near Cedar Street, honked his horn and made an obscene hand gesture Thursday, police said.

The alleged victim told police Beagan rolled down his window and pointed a gun in the air before aiming it in his direction, police said.

The alleged victim said he was able to take town Beagan’s license plate number after the suspect pulled in front of him and continued on his way, police said.

Since the area was so close to Mass Bay Community College police called the school to find out if there was a matching license plate registered on campus, police said.

The school confirmed the car belonged to Beagan, who was supposed to be in class at the time, police said.

Police found Beagan in class and escorted him to an empty classroom where he allegedly admitted to displaying the firearm on Route 9, police said. The suspect said the gun was in his car and gave police the keys, according to police.

Officers found a fully loaded Glock 23 .40 caliber firearm in the vehicle, police said. Beagan is licensed to possess a firearm in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, according to police.

Beagan was arrested and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (firearm) and possessing a firearm on school property, police said.
