Scam Targets Wellesley Municipal Light Plant Customers
Police are warning residents to ignore a scam targeting WMLP customers.
WELLESLEY, MA — Wellesley police are warning residents to think twice before answering a call from someone claiming to be from the Wellesley Municipal Light Plant.
A new scam has been circulating in town, targeting customers of WMLP. The scammer calls customers and says they overpaid a recent bill and to press one to learn how to receive a refund. Police are urging residents to hang up or ignore the calls before falling victim.
WMLP learned of the scam recently and are clarifying to customers that they don’t make calls of this type and it is their policy to apply any payment overages to your next months balance.
