Wellesley Memorial Day Services 2019

Find out where to honor Wellesley's fallen heroes, and what's open, and when to put the trash out on Memorial Day.

WELLESLEY, MA — Wear your red, white and blue, and honor Wellesley's fallen heroes with two Memorial Day services on Thursday, May 3o. The first service is at 7 p.m. at the Woodlawn Cemetery, followed by an additional observance at 7:30 p.m. at the Town Hall War Memorial.

The ceremonies consist of the following itinerary:

  • Welcome and Introductions
  • Invocation
  • National Anthem
  • Pledge of Allegiance
  • Reading of Wellesley Citizens who Died in the Service
  • Memorial Day Reading
  • Presentation of War Memorial Scholarship Award
  • Memorial Day Guest Speaker
  • Reading of Past Years Departed Veterans
  • Salute to the Dead
  • Taps
  • America the Beautiful
  • Benediction

What's Open And Closed On Memorial Day

The holiday also means government offices and some businesses will be closed. Before you head out, check our list of what's open and closed on the holiday:

  • Retail stores: Open at owner's discretion
  • Commuter rail: Sunday schedule.
  • Supermarkets: Open
  • Convenience stores: Open
  • Bars: Open
  • Banks: Closed
  • Basically anything to do with municipal government: Closed
  • Libraries, see above: Closed
  • Schools: Closed
  • Mail: Express delivery only
  • Trash/recycling collection: Delayed one day. Monday pickup on Tuesday, Tuesday pickup on Wednesday, etc., ending with Friday pickup on Saturday.
