Wellesley Tops List of Most Expensive Homes in Mass. (And the Country)

Save for California, Wellesley is the most expensive place to buy a home, says a new list.

Outside of California, Wellesley topped a recent list for the most expensive market to buy a home, according to a survey by Coldwell Banker, and reported by the Boston Globe.

Coldwell Banker used its listings of large family houses in 2,000 markets, including 66 in Massachusetts, with the second most expensive being Cohasset, followed by Lexington and Hingham.

The average price, according to the Coldwell Banker chart, for a four-bedroom, two-bathroom home in Wellesley is $1,090,089.

The most expensive market in the country proved to be Los Altos, CA.

In Massachusetts, Hingham, Newton, Marblehead Needham and Sudbury also made the list.

According to Zillow listings, the most expensive home for sale now in Wellesley is going for $8,995,000. A one-of-a-kind mansion, it’s more than 14,000 square feet, and features a mahogany library, billiards room, full bar, antique chandeliers and a circular staircase that leads to a wine cellar.
