21 Percent Of Westford Residents Have Gotten A Vaccine Dose

WESTFORD, MA — Twenty-one percent of the town's some 23,000 residents have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine, according to new state data released Thursday.

The state's vaccine rollout prioritizing the most vulnerable residents is bearing fruit in Westford, where those 75 or older have received the most vaccinations per capita, despite making up just 5 percent of the town's population. A whopping 92 percent of those 75 and older have received at least one dose, while 47 percent of them are fully vaccinated.

Fifty-three percent of those 65-74 have received at least one dose while 12 percent are fully vaccinated. That group only makes up 13 percent of all the fully vaccinated people in Westford, a number outpaced by the 30-49 and 50-64 age groups.

Overall, 4,762 of 23,089 residents in Westford have received at least one dose.

The Department of Public Health also released town-by-town coronavirus metrics, which showed Westford has seen a slight uptick in cases.

The positive test rate rose from 1.05 percent to 1.30 percent, while the average daily incidence rate per 100,000 also rose from 6.5 to 8.4. Although there's been an uptick, the rates are still low enough that the town is firmly in the green, or low risk category.

There were 27 confirmed cases in the past two weeks, bringing the number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 1,118. Of those, 27 residents have died.
