WESTFORD, MA — Emergency crews raced to Westford Academy on Patten Road to investigate what was originally reported as a "battery explosion" inside the school's cafeteria Monday night. But it turned out to be a false alarm, according to Westford Fire Captain David O'Keefe.

"It was not an explosion," O'Keefe told Patch. He said the machine custodians use to clean the floors began to leak fluid. Crews were able to get the machine outside and contain the fluid.

The Westford Board of Health and came to check it out and gave the all clear for the custodians to handle the situation.
