Groton Man Held Without Bail, Accused Of Wife's Murder

GROTON, MA — A judge ordered the man charged in connection with his wife's death after she was found at their Groton home stabbed to death was held without bail and ordered to undergo a mental competency evaluation at Bridgewater State Hospital.
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Groton Police Chief Michael Luth said Greogory Fairbairn, 62, was arrested and charged with murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, causing serious bodily injury.
Police said Fairbairn called police around 5:30 p.m. Saturday to report an "unresponsive" woman. When they arrived, police said they found Fairbairn with a knife and then found his wife, Mary Fairbairn, 57, in their bedroom at their Lowell Street home, stabbed to death.

Police arrested Fairbairn and at first charged him with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, before upgrading the charges. Police said a preliminary investigation indicated he stabbed his wife multiple times in the bedroom of their home before calling 911.
The next court date in this case is Nov. 8.
