Pye left her two dogs in her Jeep while she grabbed a bite to eat in Newton. When Pye returned about 45 minutes later Freda was missing. Her other dog, a 17-year-old black lab named Lucky, seemed "really freaked out."

Freda was wearing a red slip knot leash that would have fallen off immediately if nobody was holding the other end. Pye spent hours searching the area for the leash but it was nowhere to be found.

"If she had jumped out the leash would have been right outside of the car," Pye told Patch.

Pye takes her dogs everywhere and they even come to work with her. She believes it would be really out of character for Freda to run away.

"I find it hard to believe that she would have escaped on her own," Pye said.

Pye started fostering Freda through the BayPath Humane Society after she tragically lost one of her dogs. She did such great work with Freda and the pair were so perfect for each other that the humane society gave her the pup as a gift.

"She's my daughter, you know what I mean," Pye said. "She was literally a gift to me and she's literally my therapy dog."
