Jetlagged Woman Drives Into Tree on Main Street

The following information was supplied by the Westford Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Sept. 23, 4:38 p.m. – Police arrived to the corner of Tyngsboro and North Hill roads for a reported accident between two vehicles.

A man who had been driving a pickup truck stated he had hit a sedan coming the other way after trying to maneuver around a van that had backed into traffic. The sedan had stopped, and the pickup truck was going approximately 25 miles per hour.

The man driving the pickup truck was not in possession of his driver’s license at the time of the incident and was issued an unspecified citation.

The woman was first sighted by an off-duty officer, who was tending to the woman.

According to the officer, her vehicle, a Lexus, drifted off the road and sideswiped into the tree, fish tailing away with marks on the ground indicating that the tires were still rolling, or “zero braking” before coming to rest near a stone wall.

The vehicle itself sustained major damage, with wheels and other parts of the vehicle torn away and other parts of the vehicle twisted backwards.

Looking at evidence on the scene, the vehicle was traveling above the speed limit and the woman had admitted she fell asleep at the wheel.

Due to the woman’s injuries, she was mailed a summons to court instead of being given one on scene.

Oct. 1, 1:26 p.m. – Police were dispatched to a business on Littleton Road due to potential trespassing.

The manager of the store said a man came into the store earlier in the day but was not welcome, coming in four times over the past week.

This man was no longer welcome because last year the manager confronted this man in the parking lot about an item he stole.

Just as the manager was talking with the officer, the man was walking out of a nearby store with his girlfriend.

Together, the officer and the manager told the man once again that he was no longer welcome in the store. He understood and denied any wrongdoing.

A background check on the man indicated what police reports described as an extremely long criminal record.

Oct. 3, 3:32 p.m. – The driver of a Toyota on Acton Road sideswiped another vehicle after reporting to police she fell asleep at the wheel.

She was heading south and met head on with a pickup truck with New Hampshire number plates.

The vehicles were towed, and the driver was issued three citations that were redacted within the police report.
