Nashoba Tech Students Win Gold In District SkillsUSA Competition

Students at Nashoba Valley Technical High School brought home seven first-place medals at the SkillsUSA District Competition.

WESTFORD, MA — Students at Nashoba Valley Technical High School brought home seven first-place medals at SkillsUSA District Competition.

The annual nonprofit national education association's competition was held remotely this year.

Students who were in the school during their technical week competed online from the school, while those who were at home competed from home, according to the school.

Students who earned gold and silver medals qualify for the SkillsUSA State Competition, which will be held April 29-May 1. If they again win gold or silver they can go on to the Atlanta National competition in the summer. Some 16,000 people generally attend that competition.

Nashoba Tech swept two categories in the District Competition: Industrial motor control and audio and radio production.

Juniors in the Electrical Technology department took the top three places in the Industrial Motor Control competition: Matthew Lynch, of Westford, came in first place. Jack Dennehy, of Littleton, took second place, and Joshua Mendes, of Pepperell rounded it out in third place.

Three Nashoba Tech teams swept in the audio and radio production competition: Freshmen Wendy Barrett (Boxboro) and Connor McCall (Pepperell) placed first, while Nykol Fischer (junior, Townsend) and Rebeeca Loureiro (senior, Chelmsford) placed second, and earning bronze were Meghan Chamberlain (junior, Shirley) and Elsa Vig (junior, Billerica).

Other gold-medalists for Nashoba Tech:

  • The team of Mikayla Barrett (junior, Boxboro) and Brian McCall (senior, Pepperell) in Digital Cinema Production. They are the siblings of fellow gold-medal team Wendy and Connor.
  • The team of Cody Buckley (sophomore, Pepperell) and Alexander Gendron (sophomore, Dracut) in Web Design.
  • Julia Chamberlain (sophomore, Chelmsford) in First Aid/CPR.
  • Brianna Clark (senior, Shirley) in Restaurant Service.
  • Carolyn Dorman (junior, Townsend) in Advertising Design.

Other students earning silver medals for Nashoba Tech and spots in the state competition:

  • Mazgelis Maxwell (junior, Westford) in Advertising Design.
  • Alexis Richard (sophomore, Shirley) in Cosmetology Under 500 Hours.
  • Mallory York (senior, Groton) in Cosmetology Over 500 Hours.
  • Connor Stenquist (senior, Chelmsford) in Culinary Arts.

Other bronze-medalists include:

  • Kayleigh Ferreira (senior, Chelmsford) in Early Childhood Education;
  • Quinlan Halloran (junior, Townsend);
  • Keira Meusel (sophomore, Ayer) in Cosmetology Under 500 Hours;
  • and Cory Prehl (senior, Ayer) in Restaurant Service.
