Nearly 1,000 were without power at 4 p.m. but National Grid estimated power would be back by 6:30 p.m. for all

WESTFORD, MA — The lights went out for nearly 1,000 Westford power customers Saturday evening, as a coastal storm swept across the region with winds upwards of 48 miles per hour.

It took a while, but by 4 p.m. rain had turned to snow across much of the state, including in Westford. The winds were strong enough to knock out the power. By 4:30 p.m. National Grid had power back for all but 230 customers.

The combination of heavy, wet snow and high wind gusts made for the perfect conditions for fallen tree limbs and downed power lines, so keep the flashlights handy and the phones charged.
