The Telecommunicator/Fire Alarm Operator falls under the direct supervision of the Operations Administrator, responsible for receive communication, both via telephone and in person, from the public. Responsible for receiving and transmitting fire alarms and both emergency and routine calls for service by telephone, radio, or other signal system; through established Policies and Procedures and employing common sense, the Telecommunicator / Fire Alarm Operator has the primary responsibility for the initial deployment of law enforcement and fire personnel and related equipment. It is a civilian position covered under contract agreement between the Town of Westford and the Communication Workers of America, Local 1051.

The individual must be of exemplary character, possess a high a degree of maturity that will allow close interface with the communications facilities and the police, fire and investigative activities to enable the classification standard to be uniform throughout the departments. Applicants with CJIS, E9-1-1, Emergency Medical Dispatch, C.P.R. training and certification, experience as a police and/or fire alarm operator, knowledge of computer aided dispatch systems, and those seeking a career in emergency communications will be given preference. All applicants must be able to successfully pass a background investigation and achieve certification in all of the above. Applicants must be available to work all shifts, holidays and weekends. Applicant must be a nonsmoker and should reside within 20 miles border to border. Ability to work in a strictly confidential environment.
A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent and basic knowledge of computer operation, typing skills required and good communication skills.

Salary: $20.13 - $26.25 per hour. Miscellaneous stipends may apply.
