Westford Could Pay Big Bucks for Late Elevator Inspections
The town is appealing a $20,000 fine for letting 12 public elevators go without inspection for several months, reports said.

WESTFORD, MA - Westford is in some trouble for failing to get public elevators inspected on time, the Lowell Sun reported.
The town is appealing a $20,000 fine from the Department of Public Safety after elevators in public buildings and schools went without their annual inspections for several months, according to the Lowell Sun.
Six elevators in public buildings and six school elevators were supposed to be inspected on Feb. 28, 2015 but the Department of Public Safety said they did not receive applications for annual inspection until Oct. 6, the Lowell Sun reported.

There was some confusion over exactly what caused the slip-up: Town Manager Jodi Ross said the town's former contractor Elevator Services Inc., missed the deadline because of "a family illness," the Lowell Sun reported, but the company said this is not the case.
President of Elevator Services Patrick Moriarty told the Lowell Sun he did not inspect the elevators because his contract had already expired by the time the inspections were due.
