Westford Girls for a Better Tomorrow Raise over $6000 at Walk

"No matter how old you are, you can make a difference in your community!"

In 2015, a group of young girls got together and decided they wanted to get more involved with civic-minded activities in their community, so Westford Girls for a Better Tomorrow (WGBT) was born! The girls wanted to help their community in a big way, and decided to focus on homelessness and helping families living in sub-standard housing, so began their partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Lowell.

We are the Westford Girls for a Better Tomorrow and our goal is to make our town, our community and the world a better place; and to help raise money for different charities, one being Habitat for Humanity.

As a group, WGBT, has organized three walk-a-thons and raised $12,000 for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Lowell! The recent walk-a-thon at Stony Brook Middle School on June 8th, brought in over $6,000 from one hundred donors and walkers. “It’s really so inspirational when I see what these young women can do and want to do for their local community. When I see how engaged and committed they are to the future homeowners in Habitat, how they embrace the families and embrace the mission, it just makes me want to do more as the Executive Director! I think we need to build 10 more homes based on all the hard work they are doing!! I have no doubt that they would help us do this! said Executive Director, Brenda Gould

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Lowell is currently building a duplex on Nesmith Street in the Belvidere neighborhood of Lowell. One of the two families who will be moving into the duplex, has 5 daughters, ages 5-16 years old. The middle-school aged girls from WGBT were excited to meet the family and daughters before the event – making an important connection to Habitat Lowell’s newest homeowners, who would be directly impacted by their fundraising efforts.
