WESTFORD, MA - Westford's annual town meeting is Saturday and registered residents will be able to vote on some major town issues. Here's a breakdown of some important subjects that will be covered at this year's meeting.

Highlights include:

  • Funding for repairing Westford Academy's water damage.
  • Funding for improvements to the Town Center for both motorists and pedestrians.
  • Funding for a new recreation department and other town departments.
  • Funding the Community Preservation Committee.
  • Transferring money from the Water Enterprise Fund to the Post Employment Benefit Stabilization Program.
  • Providing additional property exemptions for residents who are blind, elderly or surviving spouses or minors.
  • The adoption of the World Flag, which was designed in Westford as an acknowledgment that all living beings share the same planet and the responsibilities that come along with that principle.
  • The adoption of a by-law to ban polystyrene food containers
  • The amendment of an Agricultural Preservation Restriction that would allow for a giant farm-to-table restaurant to be built in town.
  • The re-naming of the Nabnasset Elementary School Gymnasium to "Frank Bishop Gymnasium"in recognition of his service to the community and years as a physical education teacher.

The meeting will be held Saturday April 2 at 10 a.m. at the Abbot School
