Westford's Michael Harrington Dies at 100: WWII Vet Helped Build Sections of I-495, Route 3

Michael F. Harrington, 100, of Westford, MA died Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at the Genesis Westford House.

He was married to the late Elizabeth T. Harrington, who died on December 12, 1980.

Born in Billerica, he was the son of the late Francis J. and Elizabeth Harrington. He attended the Howe High School in Billerica.

He proudly served with the U.S. Army Air Corp as a Staff Sgt. during World War II.

Michael retired in 1975 from Henley-Lundgren Company of Shrewsbury, MA, where he worked as a highway construction supervisor. He was involved on the construction of Route 495 and Route 3 on the South Shore.

He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in N. Chelmsford.

Michael was a member of the I.U.O.E Local # 4 Hoisting & Portable Union of Boston and a longtime resident of Westford.

He is survived by two daughters, Mary and her husband, Geoffrey Marsh of Amherst, NH and Carol Harrington of Westford, MA; friends, Paul and his wife, Jean O’Reily of Oxford, MA and Gordon Peters of Thompson, CT and many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late John Harrington of York, ME and James Harrington of N. Billerica, MA.

Visiting hours Friday 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Funeral Saturday at 8:00 A.M. from the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 106 MIDDLESEX ST. CHELMSFORD, with a funeral Mass at 9:00 A.M. at St. John the Evangelist Church in N. Chelmsford. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Lowell.
