What Should Westford Do About Medical Marijuana Dispensaries?

What should Westford's possible zoning bylaw on medical marijuana dispensaries look like?

There's a large group of residents who believe drugs are a problem in Westford, and after Massachusetts voters approved medical marijuana dispensaries in Nov. 2012 and the attorney general said a few months later that towns cannot prohibit them through zoning, many towns have been scrambling to find ways to regulate these businesses if they come to town.

At Town Meeting earlier this year, voters approved a committee to look into the issue, and it appears that the town will have no later than Dec. 31, 2014 to finalize any zoning after the attorney general's office indicated that would be the date after denying a request by Canton to extend their moratorium into 2015.

On Thursday night, that committee voters approved to look into the issue met for the first time, and today we want to ask you this: what will Westford's eventual zoning bylaw regarding medical marijuana dispensary look like?

Or will there not be one?

And when will voters take a look at it?

Let us know your thoughts in the comments. A copy of the town's current zoning bylaws is available on the town website.
