Sonika Vaid wows the judges.

WESTON, MARTHA’S VINEYARD, MA -- Sonika Vaid, of Weston and Matha’s Vineyard, wanted to give it her all to get to the next round of American Idol, hearing the magical results that she was moving on.

β€œI’d like to say I gave it a try,” she said of her time in American Idol’s final season. β€œLooking around the room, there are a lot of girls, and they are beautiful and talented and I hope I stand out to the judges.”

She did.

Vaid, who grew up in Weston and lives in Martha’s Vineyard, will move on in American Idol, among the top pickings chosen to continue in the contest during ”Hollywood Week.”

Broken into groups of 10, judges Harry Connick Jr., Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban listened to snippets from each of the singers, choosing handfuls of each 10 to make it through. Eight of the 10 singers in Vaid’s group passed on to the next level.

Vaid blew the judges away in the first audition week of American Idol’s final season, singing for judges Harry Connick Jr., Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban. It gave her the coveted ticket to Hollywood Week.

β€œMy entire body is shaking; I can’t wait to see my mom,” said Vaid to host Ryan Seacrest when exiting the stage after the good news in Hollywood.
