Coronavirus: Weston Takes Slow And Steady Approach To Reopening

The town said new procedures and protocols will be put in place that may take some getting used to.

WESTON, MA β€” Weston is planning its road to reopening, but officials warn they won't be ripping off the band aid too soon. The town is adopting a "slow and steady" approach to reopening as coronavirus-related restrictions are lifted across the state.

In a statement to the community, Weston said town officials and the emergency management team are reviewing the state’s reopening guidelines as they become available for the Four Phase Plan.

The town was quick to remind residents that while reopening is a priority, the slow and steady approach works for Weston and while other communities in the state may adopt different procedures, demographics vary from town to town. Weston listed five key facts that are being factored into the reopening decisions:

  1. Massachusetts is the third hardest-hit state in the U.S.
  2. Middlesex County (the largest county) is the hardest-hit county in the state
  3. Weston is one of several hardest-hit towns
  4. Safety for both staff and residents
  5. Sufficient amount of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and sanitizing products are still difficult to obtain, but getting a bit better.

So far, Weston's Town Hall is reopening to full staffing but is not open to the public, except by appointment only. Recreation fields are also open, although school fields are not yet open. The following fields are open:

  • Burchard Park
  • Cherry Brook Field
  • Czarnowski Field on Brook Rd.
  • Melone Field at Cat Rock
  • Ferrelli Field on Bogle St.
  • Burt Field off Gail Rd
