MA American Idol Hopefuls Continue Quest This Week

American Idol hopeful Sonika Vaid, who grew up in Weston and lives on Martha's Vineyard, was declared an early favorite.

WESTON/MARTHA’S VINEYARD, MA β€” American Idol hopefuls will continue their quest to win the singing competition this week as the final season of the show continues. Sonika Vaid, a Weston native and Martha’s Vineyard resident, locked in her chances during week one of the competition.Β 

The show will air Wednesday and Thursday at 8 p.m. on FOX with weeks five and six of auditions.

Vaid has been declared an early favorite to win Idol, which is in its final season.

Vaid, who grew up in Weston and lives in Martha’s Vineyard, drew accolades from the judges last week. Vaid advanced to the next level after the three judges gave her rave reviews and approval during her audition. The three were blown away by Vaid’s rendition of β€œLook at Me” by Idol winner Carrie Underwood.

β€œYou know, you sang beautifully,” said judge Harry Connick, Jr. β€œThat was a perfect performance. I was totally engaged. This was the only time this particular season that I saw somebody that I actually thought would win this thing. That’s a God-given voice.”
