Mark Twain Library Hosts Poet, Author Discussion
On May 11 at Mark Twain Library, hear conversation between Ira Joe Fisher and Jane Wyker as they discuss Wyker's memoir, 'Soul Selfish'.

From Mark Twain Library: Hear a lively conversation between author and poet as they discuss Wykerβs new memoir, Soul Selfish: The Awakening of a Good Girl, on Thursday, May 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the Mark Twain Library.
Sharing a courageous inner journey that lasted 46 years, Wyker relates her passage from βgood girlβ to an empowered and self-reliant woman. Now 81, she inspires others to connect with their own truth, and soul.
A former elementary school teacher who was a pioneer in parent education, Wykerβs memoir shows the importance of becoming βsoul selfishβ on the path to creating sustained happiness. It traces her courageous path overcoming multigenerational influences, shedding conditioned beliefs, behaviors and roles, gradually taking ownership of her essential womanhood.

Fisher, a broadcaster, poet and educator, will engage Wyker in a lively conversation about her journey. The winner of two regional Emmys, Fisher currently presents Speaking Fearlessly seminars and teaches at UConn and Mercy College. He was the weather reporter for CBS's The Saturday Early Show, a position he held from 1999 until 2006.
Wyker opened her Parents School before βparenting β was even a word and created communities for mothers to share and support each other with new child-rearing concepts. Participants in her school soon requested private sessions, leading to the start of her 29-year Family Counseling practice. She later turned her focus to presenting seminars for men and women in Fortune 500 companies, helping them to balance their work and family lives.
