Police Weigh In on Weston's Most Dangerous Intersections

Where do Weston Patch readers and the police think the most dangerous intersections in town are?

Β

Weston Patch readers weighed in on a recent poll asking about the most dangerous intersections in town. Brown and Wellesley streets? Golden Ball at Rte. 20? Boston Post Road and Church Street?

But we wondered β€” what do the Weston police think? What are the most dangerous intersections in town from their perspective?

Lt. Danny Maguire and Det. Billy Carlo weighed in.

Turns out, Highland Avenue at Rte. 20 is the most dangerous in terms of seriousness of accidents and the most damage to cars, Maguire said.Β

However, Wellesley and Rte. 20 sees the most accidents, Carlo said. Accidents at that intersection, while more frequent, tend to be minor, he noted.Β

Many accidents at Wellesley and Rte. 20 happen because drivers look down Rte. 20 to check for traffic, meanwhile the car in front of them has stopped, Maguire said. The driver looking down the road doesn't see the car in front stop, and that's how a fender-bender can occur.Β

"It boils down to people not paying attention," Maguire said.Β

"Or texting," Carlo said.Β

As for other intersections listed in the Weston Patch poll, here's what Maguire and Carlo had to say:Β

Byron and Oak: The line of sight is short, so when cars pull out, another car could come up quick. However, relatively few accidents occur here.

River Road and Rte. 30: There's a high volume of traffic here, which can lead to accidents.Β

Case's Corner: Because of the volume of cars, there is a percentage of accidents that happen. Most are low impact, with low injuries.Β

Brown Street near the middle school: The police post an officer there to help with safety when students are going into and getting out of school.Β
